Stitch or Switch... Main concept

The aim of this project was to launch the concept of a vintage clothes swap shop/bar into the UK market. We had to apply one main concept across three different media. I aimed my campaign at students and came up with 'Vintage Talks' The idea that every item of clothing or accessory has a past life, a story behind it. I used this curiosity that people have about pre-loved clothing as the selling point of this brand. I applied this idea to a poster, Viral video and also an iPhone application interface.

The poster is straight forward and introduces the concept by stating one of the many reasons why people love vintage clothing.

My iPhone interface that i have designed will allow users to upload images of their clothing that they are wishing to swap, and also allows them to upload the story behind the clothing. This Stitch or Switch interface will allow consumers view items which will be available for swapping and also put a reserve on things they like. It will also allow them to read up about the history of the item, there will be no need to wonder anymore, they will be in the know.

My viral video that i produced will be shot inside the Stitch or Switch swap shop/ bar. Starring a women trying on a vintage dress and being transported back to a past era and reliving the 'story' of the dress. There could be several different videos shot for both males and female audiences, but this specific one the woman travels back to an old fashioned fancy ballroom dance.

When me and the wife hit London

I always enjoy visiting London, my friend lives there in Angel so I’m very fortunate and can visit quite often. It’s nice just to walk around the famous streets and go sight seeing. Window-shopping in Harrods is top of my list, admiring shelves upon shelves of pretty little things.

After my visit to New York window shopping in Harrods seemed miniscule in comparison. My view on London changed, it was no longer as big as I thought it originally was, although still as enjoyable. Every one of my visits has differed from the last as there’s plenty to do and see, the advantage of the London Underground makes it very easy to get around and see as much as possible, although there was a couple of times I did got lost, I’ve never been to good with directions.

A small taster...

A small bite from the big apple

Talk about New York blues gee whizz! It’s true that absence makes the heart grow fonder, and it’s true for me to say that I’m in love with that city. I quite often find myself flicking through my hundreds of photos in hope to take me back. New York City is the place I want to visit, revisit and visit again, out there on those streets is where I feel free.

The constant stream of people flooding the streets seemed to be flowing faster than the cars which where usually waiting for the lights to hit green, impatiently tapping away at their horn to the rhythm of the city, creating a catchy beat echoing against the astonishingly tall and eye-catching buildings. You find yourself with a stiff neck constantly looking upwards at the distinctive architecture that fascinated me. I thought to myself, there are so many buildings here with such beauty I find it hard to believe that man is capable of putting them up, it seems like an impossible task. Almost as if they had plunged from the hands of God and arranged themselves in this grid like fashion as they certainly do stand to your attention. Every street had its own personality and every corner I turned I just wanted to explore.

What an unbelievable experience, very difficult to grasp the idea that I was stood in Times Square, it was as if id just jumped into a postcard. The glistening lights reflected in my eyes and lit up my smile. There was so much to take in and the flash from my camera couldn’t quite put things into perspective.

After my New York experience I’m not sure which part is my favorite the whole trip was unforgettable. Some of my highlights are: seeing the sunset from the top of the Empire State building, as the sun went down the lights from the streets gave it a magical glow. Riding through the bustling streets tucked up in a blanket in a small carriage was slightly terrifying but also awesome. Screaming “De..fence! De..Fence!” at the New York Nicks along with thousands of others at Madison Square Gardens, and getting a hot dog off the “Hotdogs…Hotdogs, anybody for hot dogs” man is something I’ve always wanted to do. Jogging half way across the Brooklyn Bridge with my camera bouncing around my neck, and turning around to see the breathtaking view in front of me. Playing ‘tig’ Ice-skating in Central Park and managing not to fall over once! And not to forget the size of the breakfasts in the American diners, you can’t beat a good breakfast.

Only 24 hours in a day? I could have done with a few more in this energizing city. While the rest of America sleeps, the New Yorkers are living the high life and prepping for their dream careers. Shuteye isn’t a priority. 5 days wasn’t enough for me mentally but physically I was exhausted, it’s a tough job keeping up with the city that never sleeps. Let me tell you something, this big place called "New York" is the capital of all the new fashions and old fads
